TIFFIN -- Despite 21 saves by goalkeeper
Wilson Runnette, the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team was upended on a blustery day at Hoernemann Stadium, 6-3, by visiting Hanover College. The 21 saves were the second-highest total for Runnette, who notched 28 saves last year at Westminster.
The Student Princes dropped to 2-3 overall, while the Panthers improved to 3-3.
Hanover scored on their opening possession, but Heidelberg responded five minutes later. Late in the shot clock, a loose ball ricocheted to
Quincy Grevious on the left wing. The veteran had little time to think, and rifled a shot past the Hanover goalkeeper.
Down 2-1 later in the first,
Benjamin Evans tied the game with an impressive solo feat. Starting near midfield, the junior beat two defenders down the right side and buried a shot in the back of the net.
Hanover scored the only two goals in both the second and third quarter, taking a 6-2 lead into the fourth.
With just under four to play,
Rayce Septer took a pass from
Jacob Morgan and scored, giving HU hope. Hanover, however, would not allow HU to get any closer.
Heidelberg mustered 43 shots, but only 14 were on frame. Hanover had 28 of their 40 shots on target. The Student Princes squandered a total man-up time of 7:30 throughout the game.
The Berg returns to action on Wednesday evening when it hosts Hiram. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
