Softball drops two at Mount

ALLIANCE -- The Heidelberg University Softball team opened up OAC action with two losses at Mount Union. The Purple Raiders rallied from two-run holes in both halves, winning 4-2 in the opener and 12-4 in the nightcap. 

Heidelberg fell to 7-15 overall, 0-2 in the OAC. 

GAME ONE: MOUNT 4-8-0   BERG 2-5-1

Ellie Tressler put HU on the board with a solo home run in the first -- her first of the season. 

Gabbie Stallbaum added her seventh home run of the season in the third, a solo shot that gave Heidelberg a 2-0 advantage. 

The Purple Raiders tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, scratching two runs across the plate. 

Mount Union broke the tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Berg went 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh. 

Jessica Voitko (1-9) went the full six innings in the circle for HU, giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits.  

GAME TWO: MOUNT 12-13-2   BERG 4-6-4  (six innings)

Heidelberg broke out for two runs in the top of the first. Stallbaum walked and moved third when Tressler reached on a throwing error. Murissa Drown singled in Stallbaum with a single to left center and Caitlynn Newlen plated Tressler with an infield single. 

The Student Princes took the 2-0 lead into the third where Mount Union tied the game with two unearned runs. 

The hosts added four in the fourth and led 6-2.  

Drown had a two-out, two-run single in the top of the fifth that cut the 'Berg deficit in half. Undaunted, Mount scored four times in the bottom of the fifth and twice in the sixth to clinch the mercy-rule

UP NEXT: 

Heidelberg hosts Capital at Frann's Field for an OAC twinbill on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
