WILMINGTON -- Hat tricks from
Tyler Alexander and
Jacob Brickman helped the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team open up conference action with a 10-4 win at Wilmington. Tacking on four assists, Alexander finished with seven points.
Defensively,
Braxton Hammond gobbled up 10 ground balls and caused five turnovers. In goal,
Wilson Runnette made 15 saves. Â
Heidelberg improved to 4-5 overall, 1-0 in the OAC.
Scoreless for the first two minutes,
Rayce Septer put HU on the board with an unassisted goal. Winning the ensuing faceoff, Heidelberg scored 33 seconds later with
Benjamin Evans took a pass from Alexander and beat the goalkeeper. Â
Brickman's first came midway through the first quarter with Evans picking up another assist. Â
Minutes later, Runnette made a save on a Wilmington shot and triggered a counterattack the other way that resulted in Alexander's first goal of the day. He added another goal with 65 left in the first. Â
Ahead 5-0 in the second, Brickman scored off another pass from Alexander with 9:40 left in the period. Five minutes later, Alexander netted his second goal. HU led 7-0 at halftime. Â
Quincy Grevious opened the second half scoring with a goal two minutes into the third. Wilmington (4-5, 0-1) scored their first midway through the third.Â
Up 8-2, Brickman scored his third goal, scoring on Alexander's fourth helper. Grevious added his second moments later, using a pass from Septer.Â
The Quakers scored the final two goals of the game.Â
As a team, Heidelberg held a 15-3 edge in faceoffs won.
Heidelberg returns to action on Good Friday, traveling to Mount Union for a 1 p.m. matinee. Â
