TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse dropped its final non-conference contest of the season, losing to visiting Westminster (Pa.), 17-6. A second-quarter surge for the Titans spelled disaster for the Student Princes, who struggled to find quality shots in the offensive zone.
Heidelberg closed the non-conference slate with a 3-5 record. Westminster, a member of the Presidents Athletic Conference, improved to 4-3.Â
The Titans scored twice in the first quarter, including a man-up goal, and held Heidelberg to two shots.
Westminster caught fire in the latter half of the second quarter. The Titans scored four goals in a span of 122 seconds, taking a 6-0 lead. With 1:41 left in the frame, Westminster's Gavin Jones scooped up a rebound and scored a goal with an over-the-shoulder shot. In total, the Titans scored six goals in 4:20, taking an 8-0 lead into halftime.Â
Down 9-0 early in the third, Heidelberg got on the board. Late in the shot clock,
Tyler Alexander took a pass from
Jacob Brickman and whistled it past the goalkeeper.Â
Later in the third, trailing 13-1, Heidelberg scored twice in quick succession.
Benjamin Evans scored first, then 17 seconds later, Alexander scored again. Both goals came from shots in space on the left side. HU trailed, 13-3, after three.Â
The first two tallies of the fourth quarter belonged to the Student Princes.
Jacob Morgan scored an unassisted goal 49 seconds into the period. Then, less than a minute later, Evans took a pass from Morgan and beat the Titans goalkeeper.Â
Brickman made it 14-6 at the 9:21 mark of the fourth, with Alexander picking up the assist. Â
The Titans scored the final three goals. Â
Despite conceding a season-high in goals,
Wilson Runnette made 13 saves in the circle for the Student Princes. Â
Ohio Athletic Conference action commences on Saturday as Heidelberg travels to Wilmington College for a 1 p.m. contest.Â
