TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University Women's Basketball team hosted the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
Morgan Altenburger notched her fourth double-double of the season in an 82-54 loss at home.
Amari Slaughter's three 3-pointers padded her team-high 15 points. Altenburger ended with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists.
Heidelberg held the lead for 6:49 in the first. Slaughter sank a pair from deep in the first two minutes, accompanied by another from
Ashley Ballard. Mount Union tacked on five more to end the quarter with a 19-14 advantage.
Things changed drastically in the second as an aggressive Mount Union defense held Heidelberg to just four free throws and a layup. An eager full-court press rattled the hosts, making way for a 19-0 UMU run. The guests doubled the 'Berg score for a 40-20 halftime lead.
Slaughter made another 3-pointer to open the second half of play. A momentous 10-0 'Berg run saw five players with points as the period ended and the Raiders on top, 64-37.
The fourth quarter was the closest of the game, as Heidelberg tallied 17 to Mount Union's 18. Not only did
Syd Hewer make her first career 3-pointer, but she made two. Altenburger added six more in the fourth, for a final score of 82-54.

Turnovers plagued the Student Princes, tallying 24, while Mount Union only had nine … Gilbert had seven points and seven rebounds … Ballard tallied six points and three assists … Heidelberg was outrebounded 42-38.
The Heidelberg women's team faces a four-game stretch on the road over the next two weeks, traveling to Baldwin Wallace, Marietta, John Carroll, and Otterbein. The first will be on Wednesday, Jan. 17 for a 7 pm tipoff.
