McVicker goes deep twice in win over DePauw

TIFFIN – After dropping two games yesterday at Marietta, the Heidelberg University baseball team was back in action today for a non-conference matchup with DePauw. Avenging their losses from yesterday, HU tallied 17 runs on 21 hits to knock off the Tigers, 17-5.

Senior hurler Jackson Armbrecht (1-0) got the nod for Heidelberg. He picked up his first win of the season going five innings, giving up one run on four hits and fanning six in the win.

Six Heidelberg players notched double digit hits on the day. Adam McVicker had himself a day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two of those being home runs. Camden Farley also turned in a 4-for-4 day as well.

With runners on the corners with no outs in the first, Armbrecht struck the next batter out and then forced a ground ball double play to end the top of the first unscathed.

Braeden Limke led off the bottom of the first with a single to right field. An Aidan Corriagn ground out allowed Limke to move up a base putting him in scoring position. Farley followed up with a single down the right field line allowing Limke to score.

With runners on second and third and one out, Andrew Cook stayed hot with the bat, hitting a bases-clearing double. HU ended the inning up 3-0.

DePauw was able to get a run back in the second to get the HU lead to 3-1.

Cook kept things going in the home half of the second, singling to center field, sending two Berg runners home, extending the lead to 5-1.

Following a drop by the Tigers outfield, Limke was able to leg out a triple and scored Reece McNeely in the process. Farley kept the bats going with a laser to left field bringing another HU runner across.

The third-inning onslaught continued as McVicker hit his team-leading eighth home run of the season. A Cort Kramer blooper to short center allowed Cook to come around and score, making it 11-1.

McVicker's bat stayed hot as he hit his second home run of the game, with a runner on base, to stretch the lead to 13-1. A Zane Mirgon single to left field and a balk from DePauw allowed HU to plate two more.

Farley started the two-out rally with a double to left, scoring another two for The Berg. The Student Princes took a resounding 17-1 lead into the sixth.

The Tigers finally got back in the scoring column in the seventh as they hit two home runs but it was not enough in the end with HU coming out on top 17-5.

Heidelberg will close out the season next Saturday as they host Ohio Northern on Senior Day. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
