TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team broke in the new year with an 84-49 loss to John Carroll University on Wednesday evening.
Elisha Carter was the lone Student Prince in double figures, pouring in 14 points on the night.
John Carroll jumped out to a 14-7 advantage over the first eight minutes of the game. Heidelberg countered with an 8-2 run over the final two minutes, highlighted by back-to-back triple hits by Carter. JCU led, 16-15.
The Blue Streaks outscored HU in the second quarter, 24-8, shooting 45% from the floor and hitting four 3-pointers.
Heidelberg was outscored 20-16 in the third, staying close by going 8-for-8 from the foul line.
JCU padded their lead in the fourth with three 3-pointers.
The visitors held a narrow 47-40 edge on the glass, with
Ashley Ballard collecting a game-high 10 boards.
The Student Princes slipped to 2-10 on the season, 0-5 in the always-rugged OAC. JCU moved to 8-4, 3-2.
Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday -- on the road at Otterbein for the second half of a men's/women's doubleheader with the Cardinals. The men's game is slated for a 5 p.m. tip to accommodate a track meet, with the women's game to follow.
