Mount Union defeats WBB

Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – Two teams in need of a win in the OAC, Mount Union and Heidelberg  University, competed on Saturday. The Purple Raiders took the trophy in a loss for the Student Princes.

After a 70-45 defeat, the Heidelberg women's basketball team fell to 2-15 (0-10 OAC) while Mount Union improved to 6-11 (3-7 OAC).

Five players tallied points in the first quarter for The Berg, but Mount Union outscored the visitors 22-9 in the first.

To start the second, Morgan Altenburger found a quick layup. Later, freshman Colleen Miller tallied her second assist as Elisha Carter cut the Mount Union lead back down to single digits after a 3-pointer at 7:53. 

The Tricolor would add four more free throws and a Hallie Rogers triple before closing the half 36-22, host advantage. Altenburger and Rogers led with five a piece.

Over the first seven minutes, Mount Union put up a competitive 7-7 from the field including 2-2 from deep. With 1:54 remaining, Keeley Wright sank her second career 3-pointer. Four more from Mount gave them a 62-37 lead at the end of the third. 

The fourth was quiet for both teams, each only scoring eight points. For Heidelberg, Miller, Brigid Enright, Navia Smith and Cheyanne Bean each contributed a layup before wrapping things up. 

The Student Princes managed eight steals in comparison to the Purple Raiders' six.

Rogers led with 10 points, followed by Altenburger at nine and Carter with seven.

Rebounding was spread across the team as 11 players tallied at least one. Bean guided the way with six while Miller and Altenburger each grabbed four. 

Heidelberg returns to Tiffin on Wednesday for their second matchup against No. 12 Baldwin Wallace. Tip-off for the game is slated for 7 p.m.
