TIFFIN -- On a record-setting Senior Day, the Heidelberg University baseball team split with Ohio Northern. Heidelberg won the opener, 6-3, but fell in the nightcap, 4-2.
With five home runs on the day, the Student Princes broke the team record for home runs in a season. The 48 longballs surpassed the record of 46 set by the 2010 team in 51 games.
After the conclusion of the second game, Heidelberg honored 13 seniors --

GAME ONE: BERG 6-7-0 ONU 3-11-0
ONU barely hit the ball out of the infield in the first, but took a 1-0 lead with two base hits and a wild pitch. They added a solo home run in the third.
Held hitless through three, Heidelberg hit three extra base hits in the fourth and tied the game. Mark led off with a line-drive home run to right field.
Adam McVicker followed with a triple to right center, scoring on a ground out by Fleming.
DeVore capped a lengthy at bat with a solo home run to left to start the bottom of the sixth, breaking the 2-2 tie.
Andrew Pokley and
Thomas Sauer reached base before
Seth Scoville smoked a line drive three-run homer to left center.
ONU answered with a run in the seventh, but would get no closer.
Ross Thompson (3-3) got the Senior Day win, throwing seven full innings and striking out six.
Ridge Clark earned his fourth save of the year, striking out two over the final two innings.
GAME TWO: ONU 4-11-0 BERG 2-7-2
ONU scored single runs in each of the first two innings.
Mark answered with an opposite field home run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Polar Bears scored another in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, it was DeVore's turn to hit his second home run of the day -- a solo line drive to left. As usual,
Cort Kramer was first out of the dugout to celebrate.
Again, the Polar Bears responded with a run to push their lead back to two.
Heidelberg brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but couldn't scratch across a run.
Starter
Brady Knizner went 7.1 innings, striking out four and yielding eight hits.
