Three more homers propel Berg to win

DEFIANCE -- The Heidelberg University baseball team used 15 hits to topple host Defiance College on Sunday, 13-7.  The Student Princes hit another three home runs, running their program-record total to 51 with two games remaining on the schedule.

Adam McVicker hit a pair of home runs and finished with six RBI.  Seth Scoville homered for the second consecutive day.

McVicker's first home run was a grand slam in the second inning that put HU on top 4-0.

After the Yellow Jackets struck for three in the bottom of the second, Scoville blasted a solo shot to left in the third.

The Student Princes scored two unearned runs in the fourth and led 7-5 through five.

In the sixth, McVicker singled and advanced when Keaton Mark was hit by a pitch.  Eric DeVore followed with a run-scoring single.  Mark would later score on a passed ball.

With two outs in the seventh, Memphis Cutshall singled to right and turned the lineup back over to the top.  There, McVicker homered to right -- his fourth of the year.  Mark doubled to right and DeVore walked.  Andrew Cook followed with a double to the gap in left center, plating Mark easily.

After Defiance added two in the seventh, HU capped the scoring when Robert Hunt singled in Scoville in the eighth.

Corbin Caplan (2-3) earned the win, going five full innings, fanning two.

The Berg is set to close the season with a Thursday doubleheader against Capital at Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers.  The twinbill is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
