BEREA -- The Heidelberg University softball team suffered a pair of one-run losses on the road at Baldwin Wallace University. The Yellow Jackets won 3-2 in the opener, then walked off with a 5-4 victory in the night cap.
Heidelberg dipped to 14-12 overall, 3-7 OAC.
GAME ONE: BW 3-7-0 BERG 2-5-0
The Yellow Jackets took the lead with single runs in the first and the third.
Emma Dean broke up a perfect game in the top of the fifth with a double to left center. After stealing third, she scored on a double to right center by
Ryann Ramacciatti. One batter later,
Murissa Drown singled home Ramacciatti -- tying the game at two.
BW retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth, utilizing a passed ball to move a runner to third before a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the seventh, Heidelberg threatened to tie the game. Ramacciatti reached on a wind-aided single and moved to second when
Maddie Gossard walked. The Student Princes left them stranded, however.
Caitlin Dems held BW to seven hits and three runs (two earned) in six innings.
GAME TWO: BW 5-9-1 BERG 4-10-1
Payton Scheid drew a walk to lead off the third with her team down 1-0. She advanced on a sacrifice bunt by
Hanna Blasinsky, then moved to third on a single by
Kat Brady. Scheid scored on a ground out by
Gabbie Stallbaum.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Heidelberg cut the deficit in half with a sac fly by Drown in the fourth that scored Dean.
The Berg took the lead in the top of the fifth. Brady singled and advanced when Stallbaum reached on a catcher's interference.
Meghan Bame bounced a single up the middle that drove in Brady with the tying run. After Dean singled to load the bases. Ramacciatti drew a walk that forced in Stallbaum.
BW knotted the game at four in the bottom of the fifth using a pair of doubles to do their damage.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh. A one-out walk, a sacrifice, and a single ended the game in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

Heidelberg won't have much time to dwell on the losses. They'll host Marietta on Friday, starting at 1 p.m.
