Drown's doubles and Stallbaum's bomb highlight sweep

TIFFIN -- Murissa Drown and Gabbie Stallbaum both had four hits as the Heidelberg University softball team swept visiting Marietta College in a conference doubleheader at Frann's Field.  The Student Princes won the opener, 8-3, then took the nightcap, 6-2.

Heidelberg improved to 16-12 overall, 5-7 in the OAC.

GAME ONE: BERG 8-7-3   MARI 3-8-2

Murissa Drown and Maddie Gossard hit back-to-back doubles, breaking a scoreless tie in the second.  Marietta tied the game with an unearned run in the top of the third.

Heidelberg broke the game open in the fourth, scoring six runs with just two hits -- which came with the first two batters.  Ryann Ramacciatti singled and moved to third on a double by Drown.  After a wild pitch allowed Ramacciatti to score, Gossard walked.  Pinch hitter Aubrey Conklin was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.  Hanna Blasinsky sent a bouncer to the mound that was mishandled, allowing Drown to score.  Kat Brady and Gabbie Stallbaum followed with walks that forced in two more runs.  The final two runs of the inning were driven in on ground outs by Meghan Bame and Emma Dean.

Stallbaum drove in an insurance run in the sixth, singling in Blasinsky.

Though Marietta scored two more unearned runs in the top of the seventh, Caitlin Dems held on to win her fifth game of the season.  She allowed eight hits and struck out two.

GAME TWO:  BERG 6-10-1   MARI 2-6-1

In the top of the first, Marietta used a single and two walks to load the bases.  Though a run scored, starter Maggie Hoffman avoided substantial damage with a double play and a ground out.

Drown and Madison Mosier had doubles in the second, tying the game at 1.

Marietta regained the lead with a run in the third, but Heidelberg answered right back. Brady appeared to reach with an infield single, but was called back to the plate for being out of the box. On the next pitch, she drove a double over the head of the left fielder.  She scored on a single by Bame.

Tied at two, Drown led off the fourth with a sharp single through the left side.  After a walk, Mosier advanced pinch runners Grace Anthony and Halie Monhollen with a bunt.  With two outs, Brady dropped a single into right center, scoring two.  Stallbaum followed with a no-doubt-about-it two-run homer to the hill in right field.

Hoffman threw her first collegiate complete game, limiting the Pioneers to two runs on six hits.
