SB stumbles on Senior Day

TIFFIN -- On Senior Day, the Heidelberg University softball team dropped both halves of a conference doubleheader with Muskingum University.  The Muskies eked out a 5-4 win in the opener, then coasted to a 6-0 win in the second game.

Before the first pitch, Heidelberg recognized seniors Kenendy Shreve, Maddie Gossard, Kat Brady and Raye Hammond.

GAME ONE: MUSKY 5-7-2   BERG 4-6-2

After allowing an unearned run in the top of the first, Heidelberg got to work in the bottom of the inning.  GaBBie Stallbaum,  who leads the OAC in base on balls by a wide margin, drew a walk and moved to third on a single by Meghan Bame.  Emma Dean followed with a mammoth three-run blast to center -- just to the left of the scoreboard.

A two-run home run tied the game in the third for the Muskies, who then took a 4-3 lead with an unearned run in the fourth.

Heidelberg knotted the game in the fifth with an unearned run. Dean hit a ground ball through the right side that was ruled an error.  On the play, Stallbaum scored.

A two-out walk followed by a double gave the Muskies the lead in the top of the sixth.

Heidelberg left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.

GAME TWO: MUSKY 6-11-0   BERG 0-3-0

Muskingum took control of the night cap with two in the first and three in the second.  The visitors added a single run in the fifth.

Heidelberg, meanwhile, was stymied by Muskie starter Madelyn Thomas.  Thomas limited The Berg to three hits and two walks.
