TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team dropped its home opener, falling to Trine University. After a close first half, the Thunder pulled away in the second half and emerged with a 13-1 win at Hoernemann Stadium.
Heidelberg slipped to 0-2 on the season, and Trine moved to 1-0.
The Thunder led 3-0 after one, and 5-0 at the half. A six-goal third quarter put the game out of reach.
Heidelberg's lone goal came in the fourth.
Jacob Brickman found
Connor Reese for the man-up goal. HU was 1-6 in man-up opportunities.
Trine levied 47 shots at the goal in the game. 'Berg goalkeeper
Cian Howery made 15 saves.
Jaydon Septer and Max Hatty collected four ground balls apiece and
Tyler Alexander caused two turnovers.
Offensively,
Alex Bruder had a team-high five shots for HU. Trine's Andrew Douglas netted five goals.
The win for Trine was their first under new head coach, Ryan Kuhn. Kuhn went 4-0 in a COVID-shortened stint at the helm of Heidelberg women's lacrosse in 2020.
Heidelberg is back in action on Saturday at home against Thiel College (1-2). The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Hoernemann Stadium. .
