Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX comes up just short at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Despite a valiant effort, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team lost on the road on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon.  The Student Princes lost to Washington & Jefferson, 12-10.

Alex Bruder had four goals for Heidelberg, with David Weaver and Ben Evans each adding three.

The Presidents struck first blood, but man-up goals by Evans and Bruder 44 seconds apart midway through the period gave the Student Princes a 2-1 lead after the first quarter.

W&J scored the first two and last two goals of the second quarter.  Sandwiched in between were tallies from Bruder and Weaver.  The hosts led 5-4 at halftime.

Out of the locker room, the Student Princes scored the first four goals of the second half -- including a man-down goal by Weaver.  W&J's Sam Snider scored twice late in the third, but The Berg still led 8-7 after three.

Weaver and Bruder scored two of the first three goals in the fourth, giving HU a 10-8 lead with 10:08 left.  The Presidents scored the final four goals of the contest, however.  W&J tied the game with 5:42 left, then took the lead with 2:04 to play.

Jaydon Septer won 14-of-24 faceoffs and had nine ground balls.  Jason Mills collected six ground balls.

 Cian Howery made 12 saves.

Heidelberg hosts Alma College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hoernemann Stadium.
