Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rogers puts up career high at BW

BEREA -- Charged with the unenviable task of opening conference action on the road at the No. 10 team in the country, the Heidelberg University women's basketball team fought valiantly. In the end, however, Baldwin Wallace picked up a 54-41 win.

Heidelberg falls to 1-4 (0-1 OAC) on the season while Baldwin Wallace improves to 6-0 (1-0 OAC).

Hallie Rogers had a career-high 19 points in the loss, hitting two 3-pointers.

Five early points by Sequoia Bradley and a bucket by Ashley Ballard helped Heidelberg jump out to a 7-2 lead.  A 3-pointer by Hallie Rogers and a layup by Alyssa Martin pushed the 'Berg lead out to eight midway through the opening frame.

Though the hosts stormed back with a 9-0 run, the youthful Student Princes closed the quarter ahead 16-13.  Rogers had seven points in the opening quarter.

The Yellow Jackets would come out firing in the second quarter scoring the first ten points to take the lead 23-16 with 7:19 left in the quarter. The 'Berg would only muster four points the entire quarter and would see the home squad take a 32-20 advantage into the break.

Undaunted, the Student Princes outscored the Yellow Jackets in the third, 14-13. Rogers was the leader of the pack scoring nine of the 14 points for HU. Although the visitors fought hard to cut into the lead, the Yellow Jackets would take a 45-34 lead into the final stanza.

Neither side put on an offensive clinic in the fourth with Heidelberg shooting 21% from the field while the home team shot 22%. Baldwin Wallace's nine fourth quarter points would be enough to help seal the 54-41 victory.

Bradley finished with nine points and five rebounds.  Martin had six points and a team-high ten rebounds.

The Student Princes compete in Seiberling Gymnasium on Saturday. They will face Mount Union following the men's game at approximately 4 p.m.
