BEREA, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team was defeated by Baldwin Wallace University, 81-53, on Saturday evening.

With the loss, the Student Princes' record drops to 1-9, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-3.

Senior Brooke Beamer led Heidelberg in scoring with 12 points and also collected three rebounds. Kristen Kochel went 4-5 from the floor to score eight points for the Tricolor.

Baldwin Wallace started the game with a 10-2 run spanning the first three minutes of the contest.  Heidelberg stayed in close contention through most of the quarter, trailing 18-10 with three minutes remaining. 

The Yellow Jackets then went on a 15-1 run to take a 33-11 lead in the second quarter. Heidelberg responded with a 6-0 run to make the score 33-17. The home squad led at halftime 43-23.

The Yellow Jackets started the second half with a 7-0 run to take a 50-23 lead with 6:33 remaining in the third quarter and out-scored Heidelberg 17-10 in the quarter. 

Heidelberg had a 6-1 run in the fourth quarter which brought the score to 66-37 with seven minutes remaining in the contest. Both squads used the fourth quarter to rotate lineups and get players minutes on the court. 

For the second straight game, HU struggled to defend Lilly Edwards.  One night after tallying 24 points and 13 rebounds, Edwards scored 14 points and collected nine rebounds, both team highs. 

BW won the rebound battle 41-25, and scored 44 points in the paint over Heidelberg's 32. The Yellow Jackets scored 7-21 (33%) from 3-point range with Heidelberg scoring just 2-8 (25%). 

Heidelberg will compete against Wilmington College next weekend to complete the 2021 regular season. The Student Princes will play in Wilmington, Ohio on Friday with a tipoff time of 7 p.m.
