'Berg drops second straight

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team dropped their second game in a row on Saturday afternoon with an 18-8 loss to start-ups Allegheny College.

The loss moves HU to 1-2 on the year. The win for the Gators is their first in school history and bumps them to 1-1 on the season.

Heidelberg was paced by a four-goal performance from Alex Bruder. Jaydon Septer was 20-of-28 in the faceoff circle and paced the team with 11 ground ball pickups.

Quincy Grevious started the game and was hit with the loss. Connor Reese played the fourth quarter in the cage, and both Reese and Grevious had three saves.

The Student Princes fell behind early as Mack Nevin tallied the game's opening goal after just 1:16 of play.

Leading scorer Alex Bruder got Heidelberg on the board shortly after the Nevin goal with his seventh goal of the year on an assist from Liam Weaver

After Allegheny added one more, Patrick McCarthy, Eli Haire, and Bruder all found the net before the end of the first quarter, making the score 4-2 after 15 minutes.

The Gators erupted for a flurry of six second quarter goals, including five straight tallies. Bruder finished off his hat trick and Hunter Edwards added a man-up goal to close the gap to 8-6 at the halftime intermission.

After halftime, Allegheny kept up the pressure as they burst out to a 12-6 lead in under five minutes played. Bruder added a man-up goal to halt the onslaught.

Cole Simonsen and Liam Weaver then exchanged goals before the Gators finished with the game's final five tallies.

Allegheny was led in scoring by Patrick Hogan who had seven goals. David Kraus racked up four. Kraus also led in ground balls with six.

David Kratzenberg got the start in goal for the Gators and earned the win, making nine saves.

The game was played fairly physically with 12 penalties being whistled across the course of the game.

The Student Princes will take a week off before hitting the road for Michigan over spring break. HU will first play Alma on Saturday March 7th at 1 p.m. before traveling to Adrian on March 10th for a 4 p.m. faceoff.
