TIFFIN -- Home woes continued for the Heidelberg University women's basketball team, as they fell to Otterbein University, 66-50. Still winless inside the renovated Seiberling Gymnasium, Heidelberg slipped to 4-15 overall, 2-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Otterbein improved to 11-8, 7-5.
Heidelberg was led by a 10-point effort by Megan Siesel. Maddy Crawford tallied nine points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.
Down 19-6 late in the first quarter, Heidelberg crept back in with back-to-back 3-pointers by Brooke Beamer and Megan Siesel. Otterbein led 19-12 after the first, led by a seven-point effort off the bench by Delaney Cutteridge.
Neither team was able to gather momentum in the second quarter, as Otterbein maintained a seven-point lead at halftime. The first half saw nine different Student Princes score points, but none more than four.
HU yielded a quick four points to the Cardinals before Brittanie Ulmer cashed in on a putback. Unfortunately for Heidelberg, Ulmer's points came in the midst of a 15-4 Cardinal run over the first half of the third quarter. Otterbein led 50-38 after three quarters.
Otterbein did not let up in the fourth, maintaining a comfortable margin throughout. Cutteridge finished with a game-high 18 points.
The Student Princes return to the court on the final day of January -- a 7:30 p.m. battle at Capital University (9-9, 5-6). Capital won the game at Heidelberg earlier this season, a 69-53 victory.
