TIFFIN -- A second quarter let down hurt the Heidelberg University women's basketball team in a 69-46 loss to Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday evening. The visitors outscored HU, 18-7 in the second to pull away for the win.
Alyssa Riley led the Berg with 12 points. Sophomore Maddy Crawford chipped in seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Berg held the Yellow Jackets close in the first quarter, with Riley draining a trey to cut the deficit to one point. BW hit a pair of free throws as time expired in the period, holding a 15-12 lead after one.
The Yellow Jackets went on a 9-2 run midway through the second quarter to distance themselves from the Berg. The run was briefly halted when Riley and Brittanie Ulmer hit back-to-back jumpers.
Baldwin Wallace took a 49-35 lead into intermission.
Despite both teams playing to an even 16-16 third quarter, BW had another explosive quarter in the final period. Sydney Diedrich nailed a three with 6:51 to play to push the Yellow Jacket lead to 17. Diedrich finished with a game-high 29 points on 12 of 15 shooting.
BW scored 14 points off of 18 Heidelberg turnovers.
The Berg hosts Otterbein University (9-8, 5-5) on Saturday for 3 p.m. tipoff. The Student Princes look to avenge a 95-85 loss from Dec. 2.
