No. 22 Marietta pushes past WBB

TIFFIN -- A sluggish start and a disastrous finish doomed the Heidelberg University women's basketball team on Saturday. The Student Princes fell to the No. 22 Marietta College Pioneers, 83-52, in the front half of an Basketball Alumni Day doubleheader.

Ms. Double-Double, Maddy Crawford, accomplished the feat for the sixth time this season, pacing The Berg with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Brittanie Ulmer was the other Student Prince in double-figures, with 12 points.

Heidelberg dropped to 4-11 overall, 2-6 in the OAC. The Pioneers moved to 14-1, 7-1.

Outscored 23-8 in the first quarter, Heidelberg regrouped in the second quarter. Ulmer hit three 3-pointers in the period as HU went into halftime down 39-29.

The Tricolor lost a little momentum early in the third, as the Pioneers pushed out to a 14-point lead. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Megan Siesel and Crawford cut the lead down to eight. HU trailed by seven after three quarters.

The fourth quarter was not kind to the hosts, as Heidelberg made one field goal in the final ten minutes.
Marietta won the battle of the boards, 47-32. The Pioneers had a trio in double figures, led by Amisha Herd's 15 points.

Heidelberg returns to action on Wednesday as the first half of the OAC slate wraps up with a another tough test. HU hosts No. 10 Ohio Northern (13-1, 7-0) … tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
