TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team paid homage to junior captain, No. 8
Ella Jacobs, by scoring eight goals on her birthday. The octet of tallies came as part of an 8-0 drubbing of visiting Bethany College on Monday.
Brianna Braatz had two goals and two assists in the victory, which was Heidelberg's biggest since a 7-0 win over Thiel in 2023.
Morgan Adams started off the game strong, with a goal in the second minute. A tap from
Brianna Braatz left Adams open, and able to bury the ball in the top left corner.
10 minutes later, Braatz recorded her second assist.
Mallory Zavatchen earned her fourth career goal, also putting the ball in the top left.
Braatz went on to earn her own goal. Outrunning the defender, she was able to tap the ball around the keeper into the bottom of the net.
Freshman
Adrianna Williams made her first-ever collegiate goal in the 22nd minute.
Returning from an injury her freshman season,
Ava Deatrick buried her first goal with 12 minutes left in the half.
The women opened the second half strong, with
Harper Danze maneuvering around the defense for a lower left goal.
Braatz, wanting more, put another ball from Danze into the net in the 58th minute.
The Student Princes closed out the night with a goal by
Alayna Hahn, assisted by
Emma Adams -- Hahn's career fifth.
Berg outshot Bethany 30-7, with 14 of them being on goal.
In the goal,
Maddi Springer recorded two saves in the first half.
Malana Sturgeon entered the game for the second half, and tallied one save.
Heidelberg had 26 players see action on the afternoon.
The women will travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, Sept. 19th to take on the Battling Bishops at 4 p.m.
