ADA -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team closed the 2026 season with a split at Ohio Northern on Saturday. The Student Princes won the opener, 4-1, and couldn't hold on in the night cap, falling 3-2.
Heidelberg ended with a 17-23 record overall, 5-11 in the OAC.
GAME ONE: HEID 4-8-1 ONU 1-4-4
Scoreless in the fourth,
Grant Bomer led off with a single. He would score on an error by the left fielder on a single hit by
Logan Winstead. ONU responded with one in the bottom of the inning.
In the sixth,
Simeon Betts broke the tie with a three-run homer to left.
The cushion was more than enough for starter
Logan Walpole. Walpole shoved for eight innings of four-hit ball, allowing just the one run. He struck out seven.
Tyler Verdin earned the save with a scoreless ninth.
GAME TWO: ONU 3-7-2 BERG 2-5-1
Heidelberg took a 2-0 lead in the third.
Sam Schneider and Bomer had RBI hits.
The Student Princes made the slim lead hold up until the bottom of the ninth. The Polar Bears used four hits and an error to plate three in the walk-off win.
Aidan Cummings was superb for 8+ innings, limiting the hosts to two runs (one earned) on five hits.
