Berg splits against JCU

TIFFIN, Ohio -- After a thunderstorm rolled in just hours before the first pitch, and help from fellow Student Princes helped the softball team clear the rain from the field, the Heidelberg University Softball team settled for a split against John Carroll University.

GAME ONE:  BERG 6-9-0   JCU  3-8-1

JCU started off strong, scoring the first three runs of the game just in the first inning, and never touched home again.

In the bottom of the second inning, Heidelberg put the momentum back on their side and never took their foot off the gas.

Hannah Hashman singled to second, allowing Abby Hoertz to advance and score.

Adyson Bowe made her away across the plate, cutting the deficit 3-2

Megan Miller delivered a  sacrifice fly to left field, picking up an RBI, bringing home Hashman, tying the game 3-3.

Hashman came in clutch again for The Berg in the bottom of the third, bringing in a pair of runs while Alexis Burton and Cara Meyer crossed home plate. HU took the lead 5-3.

JCU held 'Berg until the sixth inning after Megan Miller drove in another RBI, on a sacrifice bunt to third, allowing Hashman to extend the lead 6-3.

GAME TWO:  JCU 7-8-1   BERG 1-2-8

The Blue Streaks came back for revenge in the second part of Tuesday's twinbill.

JCU held HU scoreless until the fifth inning when Leah Arnett's sacrifice fly lined out to center, allowing Hashman to cross home plate.

John Carroll scored again in the top of the seventh, ending the game 7-1.
