Swim dives into 2026-27 season at JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University swim teams began their 2026-27 season with a dual meet at John Carroll University on Saturday. Despite coming up short on the scoreboard, the Student Princes turned in several strong performances. The men's team lost, 162-50, and the women were upended, 156-70.  

Heidelberg's first top-three finish came in the 11th event when senior Elli Mayer was the runner up in the 50 free with a time of 26.25. On the men's side, sophomore Andrey Pilipchuk was third with a 22.86.  

Courtney Kaye was third in the 500 free, swimming a 6:13.13.  

In the 50 fly, Darby Nelson secured first-place points with a 28.91. Pilipchuk won the men's 50 fly with a 24.97.  

The 'Berg women were 1-2 on the scoreboard in the 200 IM. Emma Osborne won with a 2:37.06. Kaye was next with a 2:41.81.  

The men were 1-2-3 in scoring in the 200 IM, with Zach MacDonald, Lance Koch, and Owen Garver racking up a combined 16 points. 

In the 400 free relay, Delaney Buxton, Mayer, Addison Fortney and Nelson scored 11 points with a 3:57.73.  Evan Eaglin, Caleb Owen, Terrance Carrasco, and Koch were the only scorers on the men's side. 

Heidelberg returns to action on Friday, Oct. 16., when they play host to Ohio Wesleyan at the Tiffin YMCA.
