TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Track and Field Teams started the 2026 season with a strong showcase at their first ever home indoor meet. Frann's Fieldhouse hosted the inaugural Larry Brown Invitational.
SPRINTS & HURDLES
In the 60m hurdles, the men's side scored two runners: Cameron Long in sixth with a time of 9.11 followed by
Zach Taylor in eighth with a time of 9.94.
On the women's side,
Emily Valencia took seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 11.18, and fourth in the 200m (28.50).
Sophomore Travis Bolden took first in the 200m in a field of 37 runners, with the time of 22.92. He added an 11th place finish in the 60m prelims with a time of 7.23.
The freshmen duo of
Dominick Zaffos and
Lael Foster took eighth and ninth in the 400m, with respective times of 53.27 and 53.96.
Sophomore
Brianna Braatz had a standout performance at home, placing third in the 60m (7.95) and second in the 200m (26.14).
Senior
Kylie Cope also delivered in two events: placing second in the 400m (1:07:51) and seventh in the 200m (29.37)
MID-DISTANCE
Freshman
Augie Schweickert made his 500m debut, and took first overall with the time of 1:09:62.
Braden Cinato took second in the 800m with a time of 2:07:83, followed by Fay (2:19:85) in eighth, and Kandel (2:22:09) in 10th.
The men had two top-eight finishes in the 1k: Henderson in third (2:36:16), followed by Scott in fifth (2:36:89).
DISTANCE
Standout XC freshman
Dean Morrison took fourth in the mile with a time of 4:34:57, followed by Cinato in eighth (4:40:43).
Tyler Huff took fourth overall in the 3k with the time 9:07:02.
Thomas Katsares followed in eighth (9:30:65). Bichsel, Cox, Elchert, Walter, and Musilli rounded out the field.
Vannesa Shanaman led the women in the 3k with a fourth place finish at 11:11:48. The trio of McCall (11:53:12), Horner (11:53:23), Hintze (12:15:65) followed, finishing seventh, eighth, and ninth. Rounding out the field was Mohr (12:41:58).
FIELD EVENTS — THROWS
Junior
Amelia Lewin led the throwers with two scoring finishes. She placed third in shot put at 11.52m, followed with fifth in the weight throw at 14.54m. Freshman
Isabella Grennell added a fourth place finish in shot put at 11.1m. Senior
Kerry Copenhaver finished eighth in the weight throw at 13.58m.
Senior
Josiah Brown led the men's side with a fourth place finish in shot put at 13.68m, followed by
Ethan Rieman in sixth at 13.00m and
Ahmir Britt (11.69m).
Adam Kauble added an eighth place finish in the weight throw at 13.10m, followed by Brown (12.35m), Rieman (11.26m), and Shively (10.19m).
FIELD EVENTS — JUMPS
Sophomore
Ella Jacobs highlighted the jump crew with two top finishes. She finished third in high jump, tying her lifetime PR at 1.55m, and added an eighth place finish in long jump at 4.54m.
Sophomore
Cornell Test placed fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 3.95m. Freshman
Jacob Myers finished ninth in long jump at 6.17m.
RELAYS
In their season debut, the 4x200m team of TJ Bolden,
Cody Smith,
Jacob Myers,
Tyreese Clerveau ran a strong race finishing third at 1:43:24.
Heidelberg ended the night with two strong 4x400m teams for the men. Finishing in third with a time of 3:35:86, the team of
Augie Schweickert,
Dean Morrison,
Braden Cinato, and
Tyreese Clerveau. The team of
Dominick Zaffos,
Adam Scott,
James Henderson, and
Andrew Fay followed in sixth at 3:46:97.
The Student Princes will be back on the track Saturday, Jan. 24 at Tiffin University.
