Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Berg holds on for win over Bluffton

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Men's Soccer team scored twice in the first half, then held on with 10 men for the final 37 minutes of a 2-1 victory over Bluffton at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex on a wet Wednesday afternoon.  The win was Heidelberg's second of the season.

Running on to a long ball played over the top by Zachary Clark in the 10th minute, a nifty touch with the outside of his right foot allowed Nate Eagan to dart between two Beaver defenders. With the ball at his feet inside the penalty area, Eagan found side netting with a low shot -- putting HU ahead 1-0.

In the 29th minute, a throw in came to the feet of Nick Mangone. Mangone played it to the feet of Evan Johnston, who deftly danced between two defenders and beat the Bluffton goalkeeper in the same spot as Eagan.

Heidelberg led 2-0 at halftime, but ran into trouble in the 53rd minute. Cody Springer got tangled up with a Bluffton player on a corner kick and tumbled to the pitch. The referee immediately drew a yellow card for Springer -- his second -- and awarded a penalty to the Beavers. Collin Scheid tucked it under the outstretched arm of Collin Biehler, halving the Heidelberg lead.

The Student Princes were able to fend off the remainder of the Beaver attacks, despite being down a man.

Bluffton had 14 shots in the game, but only put two on frame. Heidelberg had 15 shots, eight on goal.

Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday at Alma. The opening kick is scheduled for 4 p.m.
