ADA -- The Heidelberg University Football team fell behind early and was unable to catch up in the Bendo Bowl. Host Ohio Northern won the game, 33-13. The victory gives the Polar Bears two straight wins in the traveling trophy game played in honor of the late Ronnie and Jason Bendekovic.
Both teams moved to 1-1 on the season.Â
Ohio Northern scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, taking control of the contest. Adding another in the second, but missing their second extra point of the game, ONU led 19-0 late in the first half. Â
Desperate for some positive momentum before the intermission, Heidelberg recovered a fumbled punt in ONU territory.
Ty Poorman completed passes to four different receivers, including a 10-yard strike to
Aiden Bradshaw for a touchdown. Â
Ethan Ramsdail converted the PAT, sending HU to the locker room down 19-7. Â
Unable to find a rhythm offensively, Heidelberg was scoreless in the second half until late in the fourth. Bradshaw fought through a defensive pass interference flag and caught a 28-yard touchdown in the right side of the end zone. Poorman was sacked on the two-point conversion.Â
Poorman finished with 225 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 19-of-38 passing. Bradshaw had 66 yards and two touchdowns while
Micah Willink added 64 yards.
