WSOC draws to begin the 2025 campaign

GENESEO, NY -- The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team began the season with a 1-1 draw against SUNY Geneseo on Friday.

The first half saw SUNY Geneseo control much of the action, outshooting Heidelberg 6-2 and earning four corner kicks. Despite the Knights' pressure, Enright was a wall in goal, making three crucial saves to keep the score level at 0-0. Heidelberg's defense, anchored by Olivia Perry and Olivia Dulay, held firm, with Dulay's penalty kick attempt in the 10th minute saved by Geneseo's goalkeeper. A late shot by Hewer in the 44th minute sailed wide, leaving the game scoreless at halftime.

The second half brought more intensity, with both teams finding the back of the net. SUNY Geneseo struck first in the 56th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Heidelberg responded in the 64th minute, as Syd Hewer tied things up with a goal assisted by Morgan Adams, knotting the match at 1-1. The Student Princes ramped up their attack, firing nine shots in the second half, including shots by Brianna Braatz, Morgan Adams, and Alayna Hahn, but the defense of Geneseo kept Heidelberg in check. Enright added four more saves in the second half, finishing with seven for the match, helping to secure the draw.

Heidelberg's offense was led by Braatz, who took three shots, while Hewer's goal came on two shots.

UP NEXT: The ladies continue their trip across New York with a game at Ithaca on Sunday, August 31. That match is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. kick off.
