Seniors shine in home finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Softball team picked up a Senior Day split against Marietta College on Saturday. The Pioneers held on for a 4-3 win in the opener but the Student Princes responded with a 6-3 triumph in the nightcap.

Prior to the game, Heidelberg honored graduate assistant Amber Cieplinski and players Aubrey Conklin, Emma Dean, Rachel Adams, the unforgetable, unmistakable Aubrey Baker, Lillie Robeson, Madison Mosier, Jade Torres and Gabbie Stallbaum for their contributions to the program.

GAME ONE: MAR 4-7-1  BERG 3-6-3

Heidelberg conceded two runs in the first, but scored a pair of unearned runs in the second to tie the game. Marietta answered with two in the third -- both unearned.

Ellie Tressler singled home Leah Arnett in the fifth, cutting the deficit to one.

In the sixth, HU had the tying run on third, but could not score.

Haley Gockstetter allowed one earned run in 5+ innings of work, striking out one. Taylor Forrest worked two innings of hitless relief.

GAME TWO: BERG 6-12-0  MAR 3-6-0

The Berg took a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings. Dean and Arnett drove in the runs in the first with singles. In the second, a double steal plated Megan Miller and a triple by Ellie Tressler scored Sammie Trimpey

Marietta scored two in the third and threatened to tie the game in the fifth. With runners on second and third, a bouncer up the middle drove in a run. But Marietta Head Coach Jenn Castle unwisely tested the arm of Arnett in center, waving the trail runner home. Arnett sent a laser to Tressler at the plate, nailing the runner by three feet. An infield pop up ended the inning.

Following a 1-2-3 top of the sixth, Heidelberg scored two insurance runs. Trimpey singled and stole second -- her 24th stolen base in 24 attempts. Stallbaum ripped a single up the middle, scoring the speedy freshman from second. Stallbaum scored on a single by Dean.

Forrest finished the game with a perfect seventh inning. She picked up her team-leading ninth win of the season, scattering six hits and fanning two.
