Queen Gabbie! Stallbaum breaks HR record

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Softball team swept visiting Wilmington College on Saturday, winning the opener, 6-2, then walking off with an 11-10 win in the nightcap. The story of the day belonged to senior Gabbie Stallbaum, who homered in both games and, in the process, broke the program record for career home runs.

The record-tying blast was a solo shot to left in the fifth inning of game one. The record breaker came in the first inning of game two -- a prodigious bomb to straightaway center.  It was the 30th round-tripper of her career, passing Mikaela Mitsch, who hit 29 from 2013-2016.

After dropping two games on Saturday, the Student Princes needed a sweep on Saturday to stay in contention for the OAC Tournament. Ellie Tressler provided the walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh in game two -- a contest in which HU led a hefty lead slip away. Regardless, the Student Princes improved to 15-13 overall, 5-5 in the OAC.

The Student Princes will host a pair of doubleheaders at Frann's Field this week. Baldwin Wallace visits on Tuesday and Wittenberg is in town on Wednesday. Both doubleheaders are slated for 3 p.m. starts.
