Box Score 2 BEXLEY, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Softball team dropped both halves on an OAC doubleheader on April Fools Day. With a 7-3 loss in the opener and an 8-7loss in the nightcap, the Student Princes have gone three days without a split.
Heidelberg slid to 11-11 overall, 1-4 in the OAC.
After falling behind 5-0 through two innings, Heidelberg responded in the third.
Gabbie Stallbaum uncorked a three-run bomb to right -- her eighth of the season and 27th of her career. Stallbaum is now tied with Jadie Wheeler (1996-99) for third in program history.
Capital answered with two in the bottom of the inning, then held The Berg at bay the rest of the way.
In game two, the Comets scored twice in the first and three times in the fourth. Undeterred, Heidelberg got on the board with a two-run homer to center by
Jade Torres -- the first of her career.
Down 6-2 in the fifth, HU inched closer.
Ellie Tressler singled and scooted to third on a double by Stallbaum. Tressler scored on an RBI groundout by
Abbie Marshall. Central Ohio native
Emma Dean, playing in front of a group of family and friends, uncorked a two-run blast to center -- her first of the season.
Capital scored two critical insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Three walks in the top of the seventh helped HU load the bases with two outs. Dean contributed a two-run single up the middle, cutting the Comet lead to one. The hosts ended the threat with a strikeout, sweeping the doubleheader.
