Box Score 2 ALMA, Michigan -- The Heidelberg University Softball team settled for a split at Alma College on a blustery Friday. The Student Princes held on for a 3-2 win in the opener, but couldn't get the bats rolling in a 1-0 loss in the second game.
Heidelberg moved to 9-7 on the season -- splitting every game day except an opening day sweep.
GAME ONE: HEIDELBERG 3-6-0 ALMA 2-6-0
Scoreless in the third, the Heidelberg offense heated up.
Sammie Trimpey walked and moved to third on an infield single by
Leah Arnett. With one down, red-hot
Gabbie Stallbaum scorched a two-run single over the shortstop into left center. Trimpey and Arnett scored, giving HU a 2-0 lead. Stallbaum stole second and scored on a line drive single to center by
Emma Dean.

Taylor Forrest was sharp, throwing a complete game. She kept the Scots off the scoreboard until the sixth, but maintained the lead by stranding the tying run on base in both the sixth and the seventh. She struck out one and walked one, improving to 4-3 on the season.
GAME TWO: ALMA 1-1-1 HEIDELBERG 0-5-1
Haley Gockstetter fired a complete game one hitter, but took the hard-luck loss in the nightcap. The Scots scored a run on a groundout in the second, and fended off the Student Princes for the final five innings. Alma's Mikaylyn Kenney scattered five hits and two walks, getting timely outs when it appeared as though Heidelberg was threatening.
