Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

LAX rallies, stumbles late at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio -- After tying the game with two goals in the final 90 seconds, the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team allowed a gut-punch game-winner with :20 left in a 9-8 loss at Hiram on a windy Saturday afternoon.

Heidelberg concluded non-conference play with a 3-4 record.

The Student Princes chased the Terriers around the yard all day, playing from behind or tied the entire 60 minutes. On the power play, Jacob Morgan scored a man-up goal from out top, beating the Hiram goaltender to his lower right.

The Terriers closed the first quarter with two goals in the final minute.

HU answered with a pair of goals from Tyler Alexander early in the second. Up a man, Alexander scored his first from the right side, then sent in a shot between a pair of defenders at even strength.

Trailing 5-3 at half, The Berg got on the board in the second half with a goal from Benjamin Evans on the left side. Later, down 6-4, Alexander found his third of the game. He ran a long way, coming around the net, and found a shooting lane.

Going with the wind in the fourth, Rayce Septer tied the game with a goal early in the fourth. Coming from behind the net, Septer leapt and shot -- beating the keeper with a leaping shot.

Hriam regained the lead two minutes later, then added an insurance tally with 3:39 to play.

Down 8-6, HU was desperate for a comeback. With 1:24 left, Septer took a shot from a tough angle that somehow snuck inside the back post.

It took several swipes, but Heidelberg won the ensuing faceoff and called timeout with 57 seconds left. Head Coach Ryan Sinnema, coaching on his birthday, drew up a play. After passing the ball around the perimeter counter-clockwise, they switched up and reversed course. Evans rifled a shot into the net.

Tied at eight, but unable to win the faceoff, HU was on defense for the final minute. Out of a timeout, the Terriers worked a man free right in front of the crease. Wilson Runnette, who made 14 saves in the game, had no chance to stop the ball.

HU won the faceoff but was unable to get off a shot.

Conference action commences on Saturday at Muskingum. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
