WESTFIELD, Indiana -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team was overpowered in their season opener by No. 14 Case Western Reserve University. Propelled by five homers, the Spartans won, 13-3.
Garrett LaBeau and
Andrew Pokley both had a pair of hits to lead the Student Princes
Down 5-0 in the top of the sixth, Heidelberg loaded the bases with three straight singles off the Spartans bullpen.
Cort Kramer lifted a sacrifice fly to center, plating Labeau.
Still trailing 5-1 in the eighth, the Student Princes had a golden opportunity to tie the game.
Braedy Limke was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Labeau. With one down,
Thomas McGuire hit a ball to first that was misplayed, allowing LaBeau to scamper home. HU loaded the bases with two outs, but reliever Jack Anderson got a strikeout to end the threat.
In the bottom of the eight, CWRU exploded for eight runs -- capped by a grand slam by Dane Camphausen … his fourth home run of the game.

Corey Brafford (L, 0-1) went five full innings, fanning five. Spartan starter Archer Stankowski (W, 1-0) also went five, punching out nine batters.
The Student Princes look to bounce back on Monday afternoon in Grand Park when they take on Hope College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
