TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team moved back to .500 with a physical 75-68 win over Bluffton inside Seiberling Gymnasium on Wednesday. Bluffton sprinted out to a 9-0 lead to start, but the pesky Student Princes chipped away.
Trey Killens led HU with 20 points,
Markell Johnson-Nichols added 19, and
Marcos Vazquez added 13. Johnson-Nichols pulled down 10 rebounds.
Heidelberg bounced back after the slow start and tied up the game 27-27 with two minutes left, capping a 7-1 run.
The Berg came flying out of the gate early in the second half, going on a 10-1 run, going up 40-30.
Bluffton fought back with nine minutes left in the game, going on an 8-0 run to get within one at 51-50. Killens answered with a business-like 3-pointer from the top of the arc, quieting the Beavers.
A 7-0 run for Heidelberg, capped by a triple-hit by
Marcos Vazquez all but sealed up the contest with 1:49 to play. HU hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds to secure the victory.
Heidelberg led in points off turnovers, 21-10. Johnson-Nichols added five assists and three blocks to his stat line.
HU is back in action Friday, Nov. 28 on the road at Calvin. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
