GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting night on the road Friday, falling 74-49 to Calvin University at Van Noord Arena.
The Student Princes (2–3) briefly led early, but Calvin responded with an 11–0 first-half run and controlled the game from there. Heidelberg shot just 27.6% from the field and 25% from three, struggling to generate rhythm against the Knights' interior size and rebounding advantage.
Trey Killens paced Heidelberg with nine points and six rebounds, while
Riley Gossom added eight.
Markell Johnson-Nichols chipped in seven, including a pair of early threes. Heidelberg finished with nine made 3-pointers, but only seven two-point field goals on the night.
No. 12 Calvin (4–1) was led by Trevin Winkle's 21 points and Jalen Overway's 13-point, nine-rebound effort. The Knights outscored Heidelberg 44–10 in the paint and held a 52–30 advantage on the boards.
Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday at The University of Olivet. Gametime is slated for 3 p.m.
