Berg sweeps Wilmington in OAC opener

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Volleyball team opened up conference play with a business-like three-set sweep against the Wilmington Quakers. The Student Princes won 25-16, 25-20, 25-20. They now sit at 12-10 for the season.

Kaitlyn Uffman led HU with 11 kills, Maddie Reed led with 24 assists, and Grace Dohanyos tallied 17 digs for Heidelberg.

'Berg rode their momentum from the first serve to the final point, powering through hitting .301.

After struggling to find a rhythm in the first set, Wilmington led, 17-14, in the second set. Two kills from Kailee Rank ignited a 10-1 'Berg run that turned the tides of the match.

In the third, HU led 18-13 before the hosts roared back with a 7-1 spurt. A service error halted the momentum and tied the set at 20. From there, Sophia Simon served the rest of the way, part of a 6-0 match-sealing run.

Heidelberg stays on the road next week as they take on Capital Wednesday Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in Columbus.
