WILMINGTON, Ohio -- The Heidelberg Women's Soccer team opened up OAC play at Wilmington in heartbreaking fashion. Tied at two late in the game, the Student Princes conceded the game-winner in the final minute of the contest. The 3-2 loss snapped a four-game unbeaten streak for The Berg, now 3-5-2 overall, 0-1 in the OAC.
In the first 45 minutes of the match, Heidelberg and Wilmington battled hard, but neither side could break through. The teams were 5-5 in shots in the first half.
Early in the second half,
Brianna Braatz put The Berg in the lead 1-0 after she found the right corner of the net.
Syd Hewer set up the golden scoring chance for Braatz.
The Quakers came back strong with goals in the 49th and 57th minute..
In the 74th minute,
Syd Hewer stepped up to take a penalty kick and buried the equalizer.
Despite a hard fought battle, Wilmington's Alex Wilson, who had already scored twice, got the final say in the last few moments of the match, putting the Quakers ahead 3-2 with a shot that snuck through three 'Berg players.
Brigid Enright recorded three saves for HU.
The Student Princes are back in action against Capital on Wednesday. Match time in Bexley is slated for 7 p.m.
