TIFFIN -- With both teams in desperate need of a win to bolster their shot at a berth into the conference tournament, the Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team and Baldwin Wallace settled for a 1-1 draw.
With one game remaining in the regular season, the Student Princes and the Yellow Jacket are still in the hunt for a spot in next week's Ohio Athletic Conference tournament. BW, Heidelberg and Marietta all entered play Wednesday in a tie for the final spot.
The Student Princes got on the board in the 16th minute. A loose ball in the box ricocheted out to the right, onto the feet of
Alayna Hahn. Wasting no time, Hahn chipped the ball into the far side of the goal. It was her first goal of the season.
Heidelberg remained on top through halftime. Early in the second, a potential handball in the box was subjected to a lengthy official review. Ultimately, BW was awarded a free kick from the very edge of the box, but did nothing with the chance. Less than a minute later, however, BW was awarded a penalty kick after a foul along the end line. Kayln Rich converted, knotting the match at one.
With less than 16 minutes left, Hewer had an excellent look at the go-ahead goal from the middle of the penalty area, but the BW goalkeeper made a stunning save diving to her left.
Brigid Enright made six saves in the tie.
The regular season concludes on Saturday at Otterbein. Kickoff in Westerville is scheduled for 1 p.m.
