Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

VB goes 2-1 near DC

ARLINGTON, Va. -- In the shadow of the nation's capital, the Heidelberg University Volleyball team went 2-1 at a weekend quad hosted by Marymount University. The Student Princes picked up a 3-1 win over Christopher Newport on Friday, then split on Saturday.

BERG 3  CNU 1 (18-25, 25-17, 28-26, 25-22)
Perhaps showing signs of bus-lag, Heidelberg dropped the first set before storming back to take the next three. Rylee Ritzhaupt paced the offense, collecting 12 kills on 28 swings -- and added three aces. Lexi Wachtman had 10 kills. Maddie Reed (15 assists) and Olivia Miller (12 assists) set up the attack.

Riley Ameel was a force at the net, picking up a total of eight blocks in the four-setter. Grace Dohanyos registered 33 digs

In the pivotal third set, the Student Princes staved off set point on five occasions before connecting a Ritzhaupt kill and an Ameel ace together to win, 28-26.

SCHREINER 3 BERG 2 (25-21, 13-25, 27-25, 18-25, 15-12)
Gabby Wolfe and Grace Porter led the offense with 16 and 14 kills, respectively, with Wolfe attacking at a .382 clip. Again, Reed and Miller were the setters, earning 32 and 22 assists.
Dohanyos racked up 42 digs.

After letting the first set slip away, Heidelberg pulled away in the second -- picking up points in big chunks. Trailing for most of the third set, Heidelberg was able to force extra points with a fevered rally. Ultimately falling short in the third, The Berg controlled the fourth set to force the decisive fifth set. Despite grabbing a brief lead midway through the set, the Student Princes fell short.

BERG 3 MARYMOUNT (Va.) 1 (25-16, 25-27, 25-14, 25-21)
After winning the first set, HU dropped another extra-points affair in the second. The Student Princes rebounded nicely, taking the next two by a comfortable margin.
Ameel, once again, was a beast at the net. She picked up seven blocks while Wolfe, Kaitlyn Uffman, and Sophia Simon all tallied four. Dohanyos notched 21 digs.

Wachtman collected a team-high 12 kills against the hosts, while Simon added 10.

Reed had 21 assists and Miller picked up 18.
