Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Berg tames Terriers

HIRAM, Ohio -- Playing their first stand-alone, midweek game of the season, the Heidelberg University Volleyball team powered past host Hiram, 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15), on Wednesday evening. Kaitlyn Uffman was credited with seven kills on nine swings, hitting an incredible .778 to lead the Student Princes.

Rylee Ritzhaupt and Riley Ameel both had nine kills on the evening, while Lexi Wachtman had eight.  Maddie Reed and Olivia Miller picked up 15 and 13 assists.

Defensively, Grace Dohanyos was a beast, picking up 26 digs. Curiously, no Heidelberg players were credited with a block on the night, despite the team entering the night ranked in the top 25 nationally in blocks per set.

Hiram led 20-17 in the first set, but Heidelberg stormed back to win.

The second set was tied at 17, but the Terriers took eight of the final 11 points to even the match.

Perhaps a bit frustrated, The Berg sprinted out of the gates in the third set -- holding leads of 4-0 and 7-1. The hosts inched back to within two points on several occasions, but Heidelberg answered each time. The visitors attacked at a .306 clip in the set as Reed and Miller got the entire offense involved -- with four players (Grace Porter, Ritzhaupt, Ameel and Uffman) receiving credit for three kills apiece.

Clinging to an early 6-5 lead in the fourth, a kill by Gabby Wolfe kicked off a steady, methodical march to victory for Heidelberg. Hitting .306 yet again, the Student Princes were led by four kills from Wachtman.

Heidelberg heads south to Ohio Wesleyan for three games in Delaware. On Friday, HU will face Texas Lutheran at 4:30 p.m., then the hosts at 7 p.m. The Student Princes will take on Albion at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
