TIFFIN -- Under the lights of Hoernemann Stadium, the Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team improved to 6-1-1 on the season, squeaking past Oberlin College, 1-0.
Making five saves, and getting a little love from the post and the defenders in front of her,
Brigid Enright picked up her fourth clean sheet of the season. She leads the OAC in goals against average.
In a scoreless first half, Heidelberg's best opportunity came in the 34th minute when
Caitlyn Cross blistered a shot off the crossbar. The carom came directly down on the foot of
Ella Marshall, who managed to get another shot on goal. The second shot was deftly saved by Oberlin, and the score remained knotted at 0. Â
Heidelberg wasted no time getting on the board in the second half. Darting between two Yeowomen defenders,
Brianna Braatz was one-v-one with the goalkeeper. The 'Berg freshman megged the keeper, picking up her sixth goal of the season.Â
In the ensuing minutes, the visitors had several near misses, including a shot off the post by Heather Benway. Â
As the clock ticked off the final few seconds, the Yeowomen nearly equalized. Their desperation shot tickled perilously close to the left post, but rolled out of bounds. Â
Heidelberg notched eight shots on the muggy evening along the banks of Rock Creek. Oberlin had 14.Â
In the midst of a five-game homestand, the Student Princes wrap up non-conference play on Saturday, hosting Hiram College at 1 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.Â
