VB rallies to beat Albion

DELAWARE, Ohio, USA -- The Heidelberg University Volleyball team went 1-2 at the Bishop Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The Student Princes dropped two matches on Friday, falling to Texas Lutheran and OWU, then rallied for a win over Albion on Saturday.

Heidelberg moved to 6-6 on the season, with the home opener coming on Tuesday.

The Student Princes fell in six straight sets on Friday -- 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 to Texas Lutheran and 25-20, 25-23, 25-17 to the hosts.

On Saturday, Heidelberg won 22-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-19, 16-14 to salvage the weekend. Down 14-12 in the final set, HU staved off the first match point with a kill from Kaitlyn Uffman. After a Briton timeout, they had a golden opportunity to win. The outside hitter got a swing around the block, directly at freshman setter Olivia Miller. She deftly got her hands up, sending the ball back across the net and into the corner for a kill. From there, Gabby Wolfe found the floor with an attack, putting HU ahead 15-14. On the ensuing point, Wolfe and Uffman teamed up for a game-winning block.

In the three games on the weekend, Sophia Simon had a team-high 19 kills and Uffman added 18. Grace Porter and Riley Tople were close behind with 17.

Maddie Reed and Miller dished up the offense, collecting 47 and 41 assists.

Grace Dohanyos was busy defensively, picking up 51 digs and 40 serve receptions. Miller and Reed also averaged more than two digs per set.

At the net, Uffman and Tople were the most successful, notching 11 and eight total blocks, respectively.
