Baseball falls to No. 2 Denison

TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University Baseball dropped a late season non-conference clash with No. 2 Denison University on a frigid Wednesday, 6-3. The Student Princes tied the game in the eighth, 3-3, but the Big Red tacked on three in the ninth to knock off the hosts.

Andrew Cook got the start for the 'Berg going 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits while fanning three in the loss. Payton Mosier, Orion Kroah, Vincent Marimpietri, and Corey Brafford (4-2) totaled 4.2 innings of work against the Big Red.

Braedy Limke, Camden Farley, and Theo Walsh each tallied two hits apiece on the day.

After three scoreless innings to start the game from both teams, the visitors broke the tie in the fourth, driving in four runs in the inning.

In the home half of the sixth, the Student Princes added their first run of the game thanks to an Adam McVicker bases loaded walk that allowed Walsh to score.

With their window of opportunity closing, the Heidelberg bats came alive in the bottom of the eighth. Limke led the inning off with a laser down the left field line, allowing him to reach second. An Aidan Corrigan groundout to shortstop put Limke 90 feet from home.

After a Denison pitching change, Farley hit one through the left side to cut the HU deficit to 3-2. McVicker was able to reach safely following a fielding error from the Big Red pitcher, giving Heidelberg bases loaded.

Andrew Pokley came to the dish and forced a walk, tying the game 3-3 after eight.

Unfortunately for Heidelberg, Denison was able to plate three runs in the ninth, closing the door on the Student Princes for the 6-3 loss.
