DELAWARE, Ohio, USA -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team's six-game winning streak was snapped in a topsy-turvy 10-9 loss at Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday. In the loss, the Student Princes hit two grand slams in a single game for the first time since 2018.
Heidelberg (14-5) was down 7-0 after two innings, but battled back in the third. Two hit batters and an error loaded the bases for
Camden Farley. Farley turned on a 3-2 pitch and lined a grand slam over the left field wall for his fifth home run of the season. Â
Still trailing 7-4 in the sixth, The Berg used three free bases -- two walks and a hit batsman -- to load the bases for
Adam McVicker. McVicker unloaded on the first pitch and launched a home run toward the scoreboard in right, giving HU an 8-7 lead. Â
OWU answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game. The Battling Bishops tacked on a two-run homer in the eighth.Â
Down to their final three outs, HU mounted a rally.
Andrew Cook singled to center and moved to third on walks drawn by
Reece McNeely and
Garrett LaBeau.
Braedy Limke lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center that drove in Cook. With two outs, OWU sealed the win by inducing a foul out to right.Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:Â
The last time HU hit two grand slams in a game was April 13, 2018, against Mount Union. Kyle Slovick, older brother of current HU soccer player Korey Slovick, hit one in the first inning, and Matt Psychas hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the fourth. Like Wednesday, the Student Princes wound up on the short end of the game … The last 'Berg player to hit a grand slam at OWU's Littick Field was Derek Hug on April 27, 2016 … Farley ran his career home run total to 19, moving into sole possession of eighth place in program history. He passed Brock Gankosky (2000-03), Willie Brechun (2008-11), Ben Stocum (1997-2000) and Tony Pawlowicz (2006-08), all of whom had 18 dingers. McVicker has 16 career longballs.Â
