NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Heidelberg University Track & Field teams were back in action for their first outdoor match on a frigid Saturday morning. Hosted by Muskingum University, the Student Princes competed in 24 events, earning points in 11 of them.
The usual speed demon,
Jake McEntyre, wasted no time adjusting from the 60m dash to the 100m. With a fourth-place prelim finish at 11.10 seconds, he kicked it in gear for finals, winning first place with a time of 10.79 (set the school record last year running 10.67).
As a freshman,
Vova Herdman ran his first outdoor 800m with a time of 1:57.69 – good for silver.
Lexi Wachtman marked a personal second-best jump of 5.20m in the outdoor long jump, which secured second place.
The men's 4x100, comprised of
Carson Lehrer,
Korbyn Haley,
Gabe Harmon and
Jake McEntyre marked a time of 43.13, good for 3rd place. The school record currently stands at 41.45, set in 2010.
Last year's OAC women's javelin champion,
Reese Recker, didn't miss a beat as she launched a throw of 29.90m, good for third place – the top OAC competitor at the meet.
Rylee Ritzhaupt ran in the women's 400m dash with a time of 1:05.55, she set a career best between the indoor and outdoor competitions, scoring fourth place. She picked up another scoring position with a fifth place finish in the high jump. Her jump of 1.47m was also a career best.
Competing in her first outdoor competition, freshman
Amelia Lewin took sixth in the women's shot put, heaving 10.76m.
Running the outdoor 800m for the second time,
Kylie Cope marked a career best of 2:26.42, good for eighth place.
Marcus Dixon, a two sport athlete, marked his career second best in the long jump, posting a 6.09m and taking eighth place.
Chasing another school record, senior
Mackenzie Murray posted a 2.96m in her first attempt outside since April 15, 2022 (school record and PR of 3.15m).
The Heidelberg Track and Field teams will be back in action at home next weekend as the co-host the Tiffelberg open with Tiffin University on Saturday, March 30.
