Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX hosts close match with TU

TIFFIN – After a decent overnight snow, the Heidelberg University Men's Lacrosse team hosted Tiffin University on Saturday. Ryan Sinnema coached his first collegiate game to a competitive 7-6 loss against the first-year Division II program from across town.

Jacob Brickman had a hand in more than half of the Heidelberg goals, as he tallied two assists and scored two. Benjamin Evans and Rayce Septer also had two goals in the match. Jacob Morgan and Septer each had an assist.

In one of the most nail-biting lacrosse games played at Hoernemann Stadium, a goal from Septer just under the two-minute mark brought the Student Princes within one at 7-6.

Soon after, Septer forced a TU turnover, which gave HU a chance at one last possession. Tyler Alexander had a shot at an equalizer near the one-minute mark, but was blocked. The Dragons took possession and held it for the remainder of the game.

The loss set Heidelberg back to 0-1, while the Dragons (1-1) picked up the first win in program history.

The frantic final minutes were sharply contrasted by a slow, sloppy first quarter. Slow to adjust, neither team managed a shot on goal, much less find the back of the net.

In the second quarter, Evans put Heidelberg on the board first at 8:07 for an early 1-0 lead, which TU later matched. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.

The Student Princes came out of the half strong, as Brickman scored his first goal two minutes in. Later, Evans laid his second goal in to take a two-point lead, 3-1. The Dragons proceeded to outscore the hosts 3-0 -- one of which was a man-up goal -- to regain the lead going into the fourth, 4-3.

Not backing down, Brickman got a break early with his second goal to knot things up at four apiece. Tiffin responded with their own goal at 9:45, which Septer followed up a minute later off of a pass from Brickman to tie it back up at five.

TU tallied two more goals at 6:04 and 5:25 in what felt like would ice the game before Septer picked up the final goal at 1:53 for the 7-6 loss.

In goal for The Berg, Wilson Runnette saved 13 shots.

Septer went 7-15 in faceoffs, compared to Tiffin's Aidan Fischer, who was 6-10.

Heidelberg lacrosse will be back on the field next Saturday in Cincinnati for a matchup with Mount St. Joseph.
