ANGOLA, Indiana -- The Heidelberg University Men's Basketball team fell on the second day of Trine University's Steve Green Classic, stumbling late in a 79-75 loss to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Student Princes let an 11-point lead evaporate over the final eight minutes of the game.
Heidelberg and UMHB both moved to 1-1 on the young season.
Eric Panning picked up his first double-double of the season, racking up 21 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman
Mason Wisniewski was the only other Student Prince in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
Markell Johnson-Nichols had five assists for the second straight day to go along with four steals.
After shooting 12-for16 from long range on Friday, Heidelberg struggled on Saturday -- going a mere 4-of-18. At the line, Heidelberg was 25-of-30.
Heidelberg returns to action next weekend, hosting the third-annual Ron Linhart Memorial Tournament. On Friday, Calvin and Wisconsin-Oshkosh battle at 6 p.m., with Heidelberg and Manchester to follow. The consolation game is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, with the championship game to follow.
