TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Volleyball opened up Ohio Athletic Conference action with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Wilmington College on Saturday. The Student Princes improved to 10-8 overall, 1-0 in the OAC with a 25-19, 25-12, 25-18.
Riley Ameel attacked at a gaudy .900 clip, with nine kills on 10 swings.
Kaitlyn Uffman scored 11 points in the match, amassing seven kills and eight total blocks.
Grace Dohanyos controlled the back row, collecting 12 digs.
Lexi Wachtman had eight digs and successfully received all 15 serves sent her way.
Heidelberg built a 21-11 lead in the opening set, picking up runs of three or four points in a row and getting the side out when necessary. Despite a six-point Wilmington run late, HU won comfortably.
The Tricolor jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the second set -- a run that included three straight 'Berg blocks. Unlike the opening set, the Quakers never surged back and HU won easily.
Ahead 14-13 in the third, Heidelberg took control by winning the next seven points.
Mikayla Sage clinched the victory with a kill.
Heidelberg returns to action on Wednesday, playing host to Capital University. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
